Indications for the Use of MRI of the Shoulder

There are two main indications for the use of shoulder MRI, viz:

	Suspected rotator cuff degeneration/tear. Assessment of shoulder impingement syndrome.
	Assessment of glenohumeral joint instability.

Other indications include assessment of:

	the biceps tendon,
	paralabral cysts,
	acromioclavicular separations,
	arthritis,
	fractures of the proximal humerus.
