Pre-Patellar Bursitis (Housemaid's Knee)

Inflammation of the pre-patellar bursa results in a swelling over the patella (knee cap). It occurs due to repetitive trauma such as kneeling, hence the term "housemaid's knee". It is also seen in clergymen. The example shown here is a fairly marked case with considerable swelling and haemorrhage extending over the patellar tendon.
